I'm CRAZY About This Interpreter!

NOTE: I noticed that this video runs a little funny here on this blog, so you can go directly here to this link: B. Storm's "signs of [crazy]: an asl interpretation"

Now this is the type of access I've been griping about - this is exactly what I look for in interpreters interpreting songs in ASL with passion and immersed in ASL with concepts of the songs! And on top of that, treat the deaf people with RESPECT and providing them FULL ACCESS!

I am CRAZY about this interpreter!

If I were rich, I'd drag him to every concert I attend and pay him out of my pocket! I'd also drill him into a full blown Pearl Jam freak! ;)

By the way, anyone going to Lollapalooza this upcoming August? I'm going back there to see for improvements with access issues! I'm still reeling from last year! I hope they are NOT hiring the same interpreters from last year and they better have designated areas for the deaf/hard of hearing patrons to be able to enjoy music with clear viewing of the performers AND the interpreters! Qualified and certified interpreters who put their clients FIRST before themselves!

Oh, it'd be really cool if we can get this crazy interpreter to Lolla! :D

Hugs,
Iam

Deafies, Contact Helio Company!

Contact Helio company to request a data-plan only for their Ocean model. They said they would consider offering data-only plan if more deaf people were requesting them. Go here at http://www.helio.com/page?p=support_contact and send them this request! :)

Check out the Ocean model here at Ocean

UPDATE: A friend created an email account deafhelioocean@gmail.com to collect emails to send to the company - if you'd prefer this method! :)

My First Open Captioned Movie Experience

Last week I was prompted by a deaf friend that there was a closed caption movie showing near my house. To my surprise, I found out it was not closed captioning, but OPEN captioning - something I never had done before!

Update:I was corrected by commentators, mule4350 and Amy Cohen Efron, that it was a Rear View Captioning, not open captioning!

Thanks, you two! ;)

Interpreter for Online Speaking Presentation Course?

I am a student at Baker Online College for my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS). Two of the general course requirements include SPK201 and SPK401, courses teaching students how to acquire skill in oral communication and then giving oral presentation for business.

The problems with online courses are that the teachers are NOT in formal setting – such as business or office room in order to teach a classroom. They are also randomly selected on the first day of the course.

They also can teach at any time of the hour – and the same is true of the student.

How can I make this work as a deaf student with an interpreter in this scenario?

I await your suggestions or ideas! :)

Thanks!

P.S. Yes, I realize the irony of my appearance – I’d flunk on the first day of the course! ;)
